You should consider going with PhpBB or SMF if you are looking for some free forum software.

Punbb is a free one and validates to xhtml Strict. And there are Chat Rooms available through the fantastico on the Hosting accounts here.

If you use Mambo, you can have a forum intergrated into the design of your site by installing the Simpleboard component (fom Two Shoes Mambo Factory, http://www.tsmf.net) It's very free, and provides a decent feature set. It can intergrate with Community Builder user profiles, and has a limited set of user permissions.

I know that it has been mentioned here before but phpBB is probably one of the better choices for a free, easy to install BB. There are plenty of very helpful guides and tutorials about for this.

An honourable mention would be www.phpbbhacks.com/
Very informative, very helpfull, take a look.
