I don't quite understand I understand that for $10.00 you get 185 credits but whats the 6 months thing?

1 credit lasts one day. 185 credits is equal to six months worth of days.

To elaborate on KansukeKojima's point, when you are hosted you lose credits by 1 per day and you need to keep posting to maintain enough credits so that your account is not suspended. 185 credits buys you 6 months when you don't have to post.
