since the recent release of microsoft's windows vista beta 2, microsoft has been facing great bandwidth problems. because the beta release has been the most downloaded thing in internet history. microsoft associates have said they knew it was gonna happen, but they did not know it was going to be this bad. rumors say that some servers have even broken down, and a lot have been maxed out.
i don't see what the big fus is about vista. its another failing operating system that has copied features from mac os x and linux and just has changed the names of the technologies so they can say they invented it and they own it. microsoft will eventually fall and i don't think it will be a surprise. i'll be happy to debate these facts with someone that doesn't agree.

Vista's worthless, IMO.

Some parlor tricks with program windows (mainly transparency),
a bunch of worthless search features,
extra passwords thrown everywhere to give a false sense of "advanced security",
and a new start menu that's even more horrible than the original.

Good game microsoft, way to send yourself 6 years backwards.

I love using windows, but vista is extremely short of anything special.

How come the vista is alot larger than windows XP? Microsoft focused on the design and gaphics to make the feeling of security. But in a matter effect microsoft stole those technologies from linux especially. Besides the design is awful I have already seen it, it's very dark!! The only thing that microsoft added to this new OS was a bunch of menus on the top of the background. I think microsoft will loose this battle so I agree with Johnny and amir 691.

Ehm... lol. Vista? well we could say that Microsoft expects a lot of sales of that 'special' OS... Probably, there will be a lot of sales of it, i know... but the people will know that the Searchs Feature has been stolen from MacOSX (10.4 Tiger has Spotlight, an ultrafast HDD search engine), and the transparencies... well are also in Linux and Mac, so what Microsoft thinks has discovered? :S

Lol, and Microsoft talks of security? The most hacked/cracked/f***ed OS enterprise talks of security? Who was going to choose a Microsoft OS if was for an important application? i mean, Windows Vista will be safe for home people that only opens their email eventually, and does a lil of internet navigation, but is really safe to use it on an aerospacial projects? Will the next space shuttle be launched with it? omfg, i really don't hope so, dunno what was goin2happen...

So i think that Microsoft has stolen enough money to the people, selling a "safe" OS, and patching it daily with Windows Updates... I have a Mac, and a Windows, and i assure that the Windows downloads every week 2 new patches from Windows Updates; and the Mac downloads 1 every 2 months, and from iTunes, Airport, ect, not Critical Updates like Windows.

Microsoft ever sells 'nonended' OS, so if i have to pay for an OS, i would prefer Mac OS X; if want it free... no doubt, Linux. tongue.gif (and if wanted real security, UNIX)

I'm still on the fence about Vista.

After downloading Beta 2 I have to admit, 3.19GB for an OS is huge. To the point of being ridiculous. The new features don't warrant a near 400% increase in size.

Visually, it's stunning. I believe it's the nicest looking OS to date. Yes, a lot of it is borrowed from other places, but it comes together nicely and has a very smooth feel to it...

until you try to actually do something. On a P4 3.06ghz with 1GB of ram and a nVidia 6200 256MB PCI-E card it STILL hits the 100% CPU use mark quite frequently. This is completely unacceptable in my opinion. Yes, it's not coming out until next year, but still... XP will run on a 600Mhz with 256MB ram... Vista is a huge jump in minimum requirements.

I do love how everything is organized by task. This is a major usablity upgrade. This makes it so much simpler to get around in. Organization of files and media is a lot less cumbersome for the average user.

Security is a give and take with Vista. Yes, I like that it asks before it runs ANYTHING to make sure it's a wanted program, but after about the 5983902458th time you click Allow it gets a little old. Still, its a step in the right direction I believe.

It did however poop on my 2 pcs I loaded it on in less than 24 hours. I know it's a beta but it's still a long way off. It will be interesting to see what the final product ends up being.
