Tutorial Name: Avatar Tutorial
Created by: W.B Yates Program used: Adobe Photoshop Notes: A friend of mine made this tutorial a while ago and said I could repost it. I think its a good tutorial and helps those who are still getting new to photoshop. This tutorial is copyrighted to her and shouldn't be reposted by others unless you have his permission. Its really helpful for learning how to make avatars. [hr] In this tutorial you will be learning to make an avatar like the following. http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w290/Th...vatar/final.jpg 1) Okay, to start off, get your stock and sharpen it once. Then take your blur tool at 25% and go over the skin. 2) Next take any texture. I chose the one above and put it under hte stock layer and then set the stock layer to soft light. Then go to the texture layer and erase the part that covers your focal point. 3) Now get another texture andp ut it on top of the stock layer and erase everything over the focal point. Then just set it to soft light. 4) Now get a purple gradient like the one above and place it on the top. Set hte purple gradient to soft light. 5) Now get a orange gradient like the one above and set it to linear dodge at 25% 6) Now get a pink gradient like the one above and set it to soft light. 7) Now get a yellow gradient liket he one above and set it to multiply at 20% 8) So its looking pretty good but now were only half way done. Now you have to make a new layer and go to: Image > Apply Image Set this layer to screen and lowe rhte opacity down to 50% 9) Fill a new layer with #093756 and set it to exclusion. 10) Now get a pink gradient like the one above and set it to soft light. Duplicate that same layer and lower the opacity to 25%. 11) Now remember that time you applied the image? Well go back down and duplicate that layer and move it to the top. Now duplicate that lyaer and change the setting to soft light and move the opacity to 100%. 12) Now get a starry texture like this one and put it on top. Set this to screen. Now duplicate it and go to: Edit > Trasnform > Vertical and then Image > Rotate Canvas > Horizontal 13) Now take your rectangle marquee and go around the focal point in a long rectangle. Make a new layer and go to: Image > Apply Image Put a 1 pixel stroke around it in white. Now you can move it somewhere on the side the face is on. 14) For now hide the rectangle layer and make a new layer underneath the rectangle layer. Apply the image in that layer and go to: Edit > Transform > Horizontal 15) Take your rectangle marquee out and make two rectangles on the top and bottom with a color from the avatar so far. 16) Now using white make vertical marquees but not covering your stocks face. *Note: This should all be under the hidden layer 17) So now you can uncover your hidden layer and go above it and make a new layer. Make a white border around the enitre avatar. 18) Now rotate the canvas so the white rectangles are horizontal and not vertical. Go to your font and click Ctrl+T for the font pop-up. The font should be put to "Times New Roman". Make the size 2 and in the box beside AV should have 800. Then at the bottom click the TT icon and the icon that looks like a T with a 1 beside it. Now just start typing. You should have one line of tiny text on each white part. 19) With the canvas still rotated type whatever you want in "Anglo Text" at 36 wtih the AV set at 200. All the icons you had selected before should be unselected. The text should be mjore on the opposite side that the box was on. Now hide the "Anglo Text" and make another layer. Apply the layer and unhide the "Anglo Text". Now on the new applied layer press Ctrl+G. With your cursor tool move hte layer until you get a cool design on the text that you like. 20) This is the final step. Take this texture or any other light texture and set it to lighten. I erased that part that interfered with the focal point. VOILA! The avatar is done! I hope you learned from it and enjoye dit. I'd like you to remember you don't have to follow this tutorial to a T mixing it up and using different opacity's and settings is a good idea. If you need any help with it just stop by Gemz Shining Forums and send me a pm! [hr] I've done this tutorial before and its not as hard as it may seem to look to be. The only tough part is the text which you don't really need to follow. I think this is going to help a lot of those who are new to photoshop and avatars. |

Awesome tutorial. Although a bit lengthy, the outcome is fantastic.
