I think most of you always confuse about java and javascript .So I make this topic to talk about it. Javascript and Java ,they have the same first four letter. Java and Javascript is the two language is very popular in the web world.Java is the general-purpose programming language that you can create an application or an applet.Javascript is a script language that looks sort of like java;with it you can do various nifty things in web pages. They are independent languages ,used for different purposes. If you are interesting in creating a website you should learn how to write and use javascript. Hope this will make you make sense how is different about java and javascript. |

I don't get confused about Java and JavaScript at all actually. Similarities: They both use The Web and The Internet. Both of them are used to perform a specific function. Diffferences: Java is a programming language (like C++ or Perl, I think) JavaScript is a scripting language (like VBScript) Java is much harder to integrate into web pages using valid XHTML. JavaScript is a little hard to learn at first, but easy once you get the hang of it. Java is very hard to learn, and is best left of programmers. JavaScript usually performs functions inside webpages. Java can do a lot of other stuff as well. You can find lessons on how to compose JavaScript at http://w3schools.com. People use JavaScript for cool effects in webpages. :-} Both are used for different purposes. If you want to learn easy, cool stuff, learn JavaScript! |

Java can be integrated into web pages using javascript (have you ever use java web framework like struts, spring or JSF?) On a web programming Javascript is a client side script means that your script would seen by client. But not Java. well, Java and JavaScript syntax are similar, but not the same... Once you understand how either one of them works then you will roughly know how to code the other, but the main difference is that they are different types of language, and they are used in different ways... Basically, if you are building a website its best that you use JavaScript wherease when creating normal application Java suits it better... |

Before somebody gets confused: Java and JavaScript have NOTHING to do with eachother. JavaScript just came out while Java was very popular, so they just wanted to be popular too. Java is made by Sun, and JavaScript is created by Brendan Eich of the Netscape Communications Corporation. There are some similarities in code, but you should really don't mix them up. Java is NOT JavaScript. |

By the following time, they named LiveScript 2.0 to JavaScript. And so on till now. |

The main similarity is the syntax, that is why they share a name - javascript's syntax is based on java's Many people get confused about the two, thinking they are the same. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. Java is actually quite similar to C++ |

I can't see why javascript is included in the same category as Java. To make matters worse, it is written "Java Script." Is someone trying to mess with us here? Javascript's origins are not found at all in Java and its uses and applications are entirely different. Above all else, a compiled language and an interpeted language do not belong in the same category! Shame on the person who set up this forum the way it is...
