Hi, I'm running a tool called MelodyCan for my Napster library and recently discovered 1 perfect feature - YouTube downloader! It allows to download YouTube videos from the site and convert to various video formats. Install the trial version from http://www.convert-any-media.com/ and go to your Internet Explorer. All you need is to load Youtube page with a video clip and click on "Save Youtube video" button or something like that.. and the clip will be saved to the desired location smile.gif))

If your using firefox, download greasemonkey with the first link. Then you can go to the second link and search for "Youtube downloader" and they will actually stick a "download" button on the youtube page!

Then use the third link and install the thing, and you can play the downloaded youtubes in windows media player, as well and a bunch of other codecs.

This was the easiest wayb i have found yet.

There was also this other site I found, I think it was mediapirate.com, and you could just put in the url of the youtube video, and it would convert it to whatever format you want and you could download it.

The best utility that I have found for getting the flash video file from a website is called DownloadHelper. It is an extension for Mozilla Firefox (v. 3.0 and later). Keep in mind however that it is not legal to take videos from YouTube as it violates their license agreement. This is why these utilities are constantly needing to be updated as websites such as YouTube change their encryption. In any case, here is the link for the Firefox extenion:

Video DownloadHelper

Also, the main website from the developer of the product is here:

DownloadHelper.net

NOTE: You will need to convert these files to whatever video format you want in order to view them in standard media player utilities, but the quality this way is quite a bit better.

Well, Google Video lets you download the movie in the format of an mp4 file, which can be played by WMP with the proper codec. Maybe Google will change the downloading policy? Or will it take too much bandwidth?

i still much prefer having my firefox browser deal with my youtube downloads, via an extension. one good thing about this video downloader extension is that it is not limited to downloading from youtube only. you can also download from the following:
QUOTE
Angry Alien, Blennus, Blip.tv, Break.com, Dailymotion, Double Agent, eVideoShare, Free Video Blog, Google Video, Grinvi, iFilm, Keiichi Anime Forever, Metacafe, MySpace, MySpace Video Code, Putfile, Totally Crap, vidiLife, vSocial, AnimeEpisodes.Net, Badjojo, Blastro, Bofunk, Bolt, Castpost, CollegeHumor, Current TV, Dachix, Danerd, DailySixer.com, DevilDucky, Double Agent, EVTV1, FindVideos, Hiphopdeal, Kontraband, Lulu TV, Midis.biz, Music.com, MusicVideoCodes.info, Newgrounds, NothingToxic, PcPlanets, Pixparty, PlsThx, Revver, Sharkle, SmitHappens, StreetFire, That Video Site, VideoCodes4U, VideoCodesWorld, VideoCodeZone, Vimeo, Yikers, and ZippyVideos.

and in case you experience content blocks, like those for mature content (though this is not an endorsement for such content, mind you wink.gif), you can easily bypass that with an online interface for your youtube download via this website:
http://www.downloadyoutubevideos.com/

melodycan.com may have an added feature for video conversion, but with the media player i use (VLC), there's not much need for conversion... just drag and drop the FLV file into VLC and it plays real well. but in the likelihood i want conversion, i use SUPER. wink.gif
