I know this seems to be old question, but could anyone tell me where I could get a movie editor / movie maker which is free and has good performance. I didn't realize that windows doesn't include WMovie Maker again in their OS and had to find a movie editor to edit my clips from my camera.

I've googled for hours, but still haven't got any good software. Now I'm using picasa to join my clips, it has utility to join clips and insert some text, but it's very slow. And it can only create wmv file only.

I've tried free video converter or what it's called, but the quality is awful.

Any suggestion? If it's possible, could anyone point me to movie editor for linux (ubuntu) too?

On the Linux front (although some may well work on Mac/Windows too):

LiVES: http://lives.sourceforge.net/
Cinelerra: http://cinelerra.org/
Kino: http://www.kinodv.org/
Open Movie Editor: http://www.openmovieeditor.org/

I have very briefly tried Cinelerra and Kino, although nowhere near enough to offer any advice on them tongue.gif They're all free so give them a go and see which you like and which ones have the features and effects you need.
