7-Zip is a wonderful little program for windows that can compress and decompress files in .tar, tar.gz, .zip, Bzip2, and 7z formats. The interface is a little clumsy: Instead of opening a compressd file, you browse your hard drive and compressed files as if the program were a file manager. Cost: free. You can download 7-Zip from sourceforge.net.

Remenber only one thing for people that compress a lot. 7-zip takes (a lot) more time for compressing to and extracting from archives.

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

And how many times do you un-zip the same file? Compared to downlosding the un-zipped version, it is probably still faster...

Took me ages to compress a file with maximum compression. But the result worth it. 7z also open other type of files other than it's own 7z archieve. eg. rar, zip, etc.

It really takes a lot more time to compress and decompress but... As you noticed it compresses sometimes up to 25 percent better than even win rara and winace.
